Testing, Testing…Is this thing on?
When I first started Leash4Lease, almost TWENTY YEARS AGO…!!!
Hang on – let’s just talk about that for a second. Seriously, besides being alive and being married – – running Leash4Lease is the third longest thing I have ever done in my life!!! WHAT?? Sometimes I am amazed at myself for staying focused and dedicated to something this long. Sometimes it feels like just yesterday that I was starting up my business; coming up with a name, posting handmade flyers on bulletin boards all over town (oh gosh, am I ashamed to think about those – they had scotch tape on them. I handmade a little pocket to hold business cards. I cringe!!).
How has it been 20 years???
Looking back, things were so different 20 years ago. Everything was done manually and by phone. Not everyone had cells phones or emails, I asked for directions from people that I would write down on scraps of paper in order to find houses. I kept a paper calendar (in pencil, to account for any changes). I created invoices in excel and left them on the counter after our time was done.
WOW oh WOW have things changed. Now technology rules our industry and I love it. We have software to help with scheduling, an app to keep everyone updated on how visits go, websites, blogs, social media to keep in touch and share cute pictures and funny stories of dogs and cats.
And through it all – that has been the constant through the last 20 years….the dogs and cats and birds and fish and rodents and now an increase in chickens and goats and – OH! I just love them all.
Maybe it’s because I’m 20 years older and I notice things and appreciate things more and differently. Maybe it’s because I’ve met so many people and pets and value the differences in everyone and every pet. Maybe I just realize that I’m truly lucky to be doing all that I get to do everyday – and let’s not forget working with my amazing team….I think it’s that one – – I don’t just realize it – I know I’m lucky!! I’M SO LUCKY!!!
Years ago, I used to write a bit in my blog, but personal and professional commitments took me away from writing. But that hasn’t stopped the thoughts from forming inside my head. I have so much to share with you about our daily interactions, information about pet care and animals in general and just random thoughts that happen when out walking with dogs.
I hope you’ll join me on my trip down the lanes of memory, information, comical and more.
Thanks for reading.
